KESCO and ACE : New and Renewable Energy Safety Management Laws and Technical Standards in the Republic of Korea and ASEAN : link here
This study analyzes the laws and technical standards for electrical safety in the renewable energy sector in South Korea and within ASEAN. It describes the Korean electrical safety system.
Since 2020, Korea has implemented a specific law on electrical safety management, aimed at preventing electrical disasters and establishing five-year master plans to improve safety. This law includes measures for aging infrastructure and new technologies.
Regarding renewable energy, Korea has identified specific risks such as wind turbine failures and fire hazards related to solar panels. Inspections are therefore mandatory before commissioning and periodically thereafter, in accordance with applicable standards. The study also proposes avenues for future cooperation between ASEAN and KESCO to improve electrical safety.
